Events for University of Reading alumni

CaroleHi Everyone. I am Carole, the Events Officer at the University of Reading. Samantha has asked me to be a guest blogger to let you know what is going on with events for our alumni.

Firstly – how on earth is it nearly the end of May already?! With our annual Donor Day taking place at the end of last month, April was an extremely busy period and flew by so quickly. However, all of the hard work was well worth it and I’m pleased to say it was a great success with over 180 donors and guests making it one of the best attended Donor Days yet! With the weather forecast looking pretty dismal in the run up to the event, my worry took over as I constantly refreshed the weather forecast hoping for a miraculous change! It turns out that someone must have been shining down on us as on the day itself, the forecast turned itself around and we were blessed with warm, sunny intervals throughout the afternoon.

Fro3Z1A9594m the moment the event started, there was a real buzz in the air, with some guests commenting on what a lovely atmosphere the event had. There was a hive of activity from the student cheerleaders and circus skills group who were performing in the courtyard, to the numerous University departments exhibiting in the foyers and showcasing projects which have been funded by donations. There was also a never ending supply of tea, coffee and cakes which our guests all enjoyed! The presentations on nutrition and heart health and the story of Silchester were fascinating, inspiring and thought provoking, with students giving their views, not only on what their studies have shown, but also on how being part of the projects have changed, inspired and benefited their own lives. The gratitude from the students to the donors really shone through and was very heart-warming to see.

But, with Donor Day behind us for another year, there is no rest for the wicked with many more events coming up and lots of planning to do! There are many upcoming University events that alumni are more than welcome to attend including lunchtime concerts, a choral gala at the Town Hall and a Big Band Big Lunch on 7 June. For more information on all events this term see our Events Diary. It also won’t be long before tickets for the annual House of Lords drinks reception on 30 October go on sale…so watch this space and don’t miss out on your chance to attend this wonderful event.
