My practice features large scale oil paintings that attempt to create a fluid composition of tranquil landscapes bringing character and vibrancy to the spectator’s experience of the scenery. During the process I allow my mind to rearrange the landscape and manipulate colour and form to present an exciting animation of nature resulting in dynamic paintings. Devoid of a typical subject matter, these abstractions observe the artist’s hand and gestural mark making as well as the harmonious malleability of oil painting. Personal experiences and memory drive my motivation to paint on such a large scale and the desire to immortalise phenomena from my life through subjective forms, familiar imagery and colours allow the viewer to attach themselves to the scenes. My paintings embrace brash qualities of their loud appearance and illusionary feel invite us to step into the painting but also retreat and absorb the entire composition, as we would a beautiful landscape.
