Having always had a complicated relationship with my hair, through my practice, I’ve reflected on how different media growing up has had an effect on this relationship. Whilst considering my personal experience, I also wanted to created work which celebrates how the shared experience of styling hair creates a bond between black women, regardless of background. My work often relates back to my cultural identity, as a Senegalese woman who has never lived my home country and spent half my life in Europe. My practice has become a way to consolidate feeling disjointed from my culture and creates a space for different aspects of my heritage within a European context.
