My practice employs a process involving the use of a random word generator to produce perpetual creativity as I paint. I use oils and acrylics as well as chalk, charcoal and further mixed media on wooden board and canvas. I investigate my work’s relationship with autonomous value as I test whether I can acknowledge my practice as a juxtaposing small-scale example of ‘mass production’. I believe that the questioning of ‘mass production’ in art is of high importance when you consider the state of mass culture that we currently live in. I have taken inspiration from Damien Hirst who has changed the art world’s perception of ‘value’, as well as Merlin Carpenter who has questioned the art market and its paradoxical financial structure.
