UoR student claims bronze in national graphics competition!

Back in April, we here at Careers shared an exciting opportunity for students to enter the Display Wizard National Graphic Design Competition for the chance to gain industry experience and a possible £500 grant alongside their studies.

We are extremely proud to announce that Emmeline Hewstone, a student from the University of Reading has won 3rd prize in the competition. As a winner of the competition, Emmeline will receive a number of prizes including a grant from Display Wizard. The university will also receive the custom-printed exhibition stand designed by Emmeline for use at open days and other promotional events.Discussing her experience with us, Emmeline said:

I first heard about the Display Wizard competition through an email forwarded to all students in the department from the Careers office. I went through two or three different ideas before finally arriving at one that I was happy with, and it seemed that the more time I spent committing to it the more I really wanted to win. So when I got the email that I had won third place I was obviously so thrilled, but also relieved – all my hard work had paid off and I was rewarded for it! It’s a great feeling having your work recognised and being congratulated on it. And as for the £50 prize money, as soon as this term is over I’m going to Florida, so I’m sure it’ll be put towards that!

The competition asked students to propose two exhibition stand designs for their university which showcased the best aspects of studying their course at their University.

The exhibition stands were evaluated on how consistent their branding is, their appeal to new students and consideration of the stand dimensions in the design proposal. Sally Hiscutt, Director of Display Wizard said of the design:

“This design was technically perfect and has a simple yet striking design. It also has clear and consistent branding, top work! The quality of entrants we received this year was very high, and it was an extremely tough decision choosing the winning designs. We hope this competition can act as a springboard for success for these students in their future careers.”
