Winter break careers advice

Written by Alison Taylor, Careers Consultant

So, term has ended and you’re probably going home to put your feet up for a well-earned rest! But here in Careers at the University of Reading, we always like to make sure that we leave no stone unturned in the search for that perfect internship/placement/job! In fact, there are a few little things you can do over the winter break which can help with your future career planning.

When you’ve had enough of watching Christmas movies (never enough) and eating mince pies, why not:

  • use some of your social media time to follow organisations which might just be advertising internships/placements/jobs of interest to you in the future
  • maximise your network by checking whether friends and family who you see over the holidays work in interesting jobs/companies and can tell you more
  • set up your LinkedIn profile and start adding people to your network

For us the term’s not over yet as we’ll be open from 9 am to 5 pm every day until 21 December. If you want to talk to us, book a 1:1 and pay us a visit if you’re still on campus. If not, we offer Skype/telephone Quick Queries. We’ll be back in the New Year with lots of Careers Events for you, the Reading Internship Scheme and other internship programmes, plus advice as always. In the meantime, have a great break, and good luck with your career in 2018!
