Professor Monty Frey receives Royal Society of Chemistry Award for Service

Monty FMontyFreyrey receives this award for his outstanding service to the Royal Society of  Chemistry, in particular the Faraday Division.

Monty, who continuously served on Faraday Society Council for 20 years, was a driving force behind the society becoming an RSC Division. He served on  RSC Council between 1994 and 1997 and as Vice-President of Faraday Division Council between 2000 and 2003.

Monty played  a leading role in the establishment of the journal PCCP, which is now one of the RSC’s flagship journals, by persuading all but the French that a European Journal of Physical Chemistry was desirable. As chair of the Journals Management Committee (now Publications Board) he also responded positively to the suggestion that there should be a Journal of Materials Chemistry. At the time, he also unsuccessfully tired to establish a Materials Chemistry Division. The fact that this was recently brought to life shows how visionary his suggestion was. In short, Monty has been a loyal and very long-serving member at the highest level.
