The Department of CS Joneshemistry held it’s annual Postgraduate Research Day on the 9th June.  This event was in association with SCI’s Thames and Kennet Group.

Professor Elizabeth Page, Professor of Chemistry Education, has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship, as recognition for her innovative teaching and learning activities both externally, through the Royal Society of Chemistry Education Award, and within her institution as a University Teaching Fellow

Reading University AshAfsarPrize26thSciSymposiumChemistry PhD student, Ashfaq Afsar was one of 12 speakers from chemistry departments across the south of the UK attending the 26th SCI Postgraduate Symposium on Novel Organic Chemistry at Southampton University on the 21st May.  They all presented a mixture of exciting research, ranging from methodology to total synthesis, new catalysts and new scaffolds for drug discovery to organic scavengers, which approximately 40 people attended.

Ashfaq was awarded second prize for his talk on ‘Progress towards the development of ligands for separating actinides from lanthanides’

On Monday 8th June the Chemistry Research Colloquium is by Dr Alvaro Mata, Queen Mary University of London.

His talk, “Peptides and proteins for bioengineering hierarchy, spatio-temporal control, and functionality in tissue engineering” will be at 4pm in Chemistry LTG preceded by refreshments in the foyer at 3.40pm.
