Dr Neil Cocks: “Country Education and late-eighteenth century literature”
On 27th November 2012, from 4.30-6 pm, CIRCL’s Dr Neil Cocks will be giving a seminar at the Museum of English Rural Life on “Country education and late-eighteenth century literature“.
The seminar will consider how the child’s affiliation with the natural world is often understood to be self-evident, and a good education is often taken to be that which comes closest to a process of natural growth. This talk will question such assumptions through a reading of the place of the rural environment within narratives of education in some examples of late C18th Literature.
