As we frequently mention on this newsfeed and on Twitter, it’s time to update Java again. Oracle has released a Critical Patch Update on 18 June 2013 that affects multiple versions of Java and addresses 40 different vulnerabilities.

On Oracle’s update advisory they state: “Due to the threat posed by a successful attack, Oracle strongly recommends that customers apply Critical Patch Update fixes as soon as possible,”

This the fourth such update issued by Oracle in 2013, despite formally releasing Critical Patch Updates four times a year on a set schedule, due to issues with the software security, with the next one scheduled for 15 October 2013.

IT Services have updated our automated scripts and distribution packages for Java on PCs managed by IT Services in the RDG-HOME domain. We urge all systems administrators and computer users to update Java as a priority.
