Wi-Fi access extension project update

In early 2013, the Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy Group (TELSG) proposed the expansion of centrally managed Wi-Fi services across the University. The scope was to cover all buildings at the Whiteknights campus, to renew and extend Wi-Fi coverage at Greenlands and London Road, and to cover some outside areas. In October 2013, the project was approved with a budget of nearly £1 million and the work was started by Estates & Facilities and IT Services. The project has received input from across the University, including strong support from RUSU.

You may have noticed that this work is already well under way with the extension and expansion of Wi-Fi services to the Library, the HumSS Building, Henley Business School at Greenlands and Whiteknights already completed. The work is pushing ahead quickly and the Project is on programme and is expected to be completed well ahead of the original July 2014 end-date.

The status of the Project, including projected installation dates for all buildings, can be found here: http://wifi.reading.ac.uk/zones/extension.html.

Staff and students should use the Eduroam network to access the Wi-Fi network both at the University and at thousands of other organisations worldwide. Visitors to the University can access the Internet by using the UoR-Guest network.
