Lyminge exhibition in the Parish Church – this week only!

On Friday Stuart Hunnisett and I set up our traveling exhibition  in the parish church of St Mary and St Ethelburga in Lyminge to coincide with the Lyminge Flower Festival.

We set up our panels in the belfry, trying hard not to interrupt choir practice with our clanking and huffing and puffing (!). The rest of the church looked beautiful with fantastic displays of flowers on the theme of ‘Past and Present’. On Friday the sun shone and it was truly a treat to see the flower arrangements and the church open to all.

Congratulations from the Lyminge excavation team to those who put the displays together, particularly Andree Hamer, the Flower Festival organiser who invited us to set up our panels in the church.

We were especially delighted to see an arrangement dedicated to the dig itself, which you can see below.

The exhibition panels will be in the church until Saturday morning, and thanks to the very kind stewards, the church will be open to visitors this week for all to see both the displays and our exhibition

panels that explain the significance of Lyminge historically, why we’re here, what we’re doing and what we have found over the last four years.

On Saturday the exhibition panels will be moved to the Coach and Horses pub where they will remain all summer to coincide with the excavations. We are really delighted to be able to set up our exhibition in Lyminge in a venue that is accessible every day.

If you are in the area, I encourage you to have a look at the church this week, as it really is a treat to see displays like this is a church as beautiful and indeed historically significant as the church of St Mary and St Ethelburga at Lyminge.
