Our core objectives are to promote musicianship, performance and community music making for everyone at the University of Reading. We welcome students, staff, alumni and community members to join us in performing in our ensembles and events. We present interesting, exciting musical events around the University campuses in a range of venues that include the Student Union bars, Halls of Residence, and the iconic University Great Hall. In addition to our concerts and festivals, we also provide ensembles to perform at University events like Graduation, Remembrance and Christmas.
Musicianship training is embedded in our ensemble rehearsals to support the learning of all our musicians. We want our membership to develop as musicians by participating in the ensembles and events, and to enjoy developing their skills. Each ensemble has foundation training in musicianship skills to help them develop their aural skills and music notation reading and specialist training to develop advanced skills. This includes vocal coaching for our choirs, jazz improvising for the Big Band, and instrumental technique and historical performance practice for the Festival Sinfonia.
