Chamber Choir is a high-level, SATB vocal ensemble led by the exciting, prominent UK conductor Patrick Barrett. This ensemble performs classical and contemporary a cappella chamber choir music from around the globe, ranging from four to twelve parts. Chamber Choir features in high-profile concerts and university events, both within the Reading community and further afield; for example, the Brandenburg Festival of London and the University Carol Service.
In normal times outside of COVID-19 restrictions, positions in these ensembles would be auditioned. However, during these unprecedented times auditions will take place at the discretion of the director as we gauge demand for positions. You will be notified in advance if you are required to attend an audition.
- Reasonable previous experience singing in choirs.
- Must be able to read music fluently.
- Reasonable sight-reading or willingness to do some personal practise outside rehearsals to match rehearsal pace.
- Membership levels are determined by the demands of creating a balanced ensemble. This can range between 18-35 members.
As one of the UoR’s premier ensembles, members of Chamber Choir should be prepared to commit to arriving punctually and attending every rehearsal unless there is a valid reason approved by the director in advance.
