The Name Pronunciation Project, led by Qi Wu of the Student Support, Success & Engagement team, has been designed with the aim of increasing intercultural awareness for students and staff at the University of Reading. The project aims to strengthen belongingness in marginalised groups, as well better the communication and connections between staff and students.
The project consists of participants making short videos which will go over the name, how you pronounce it, the background/culture of the name and more.
Whether the name picked is from Japan or Jamaica, Cameroon or Canada, Indonesia or Ireland, it is going to be a great experience for us all to learn a little bit more about the vast range of cultures that we have on offer at the university.
The name that you choose to cover in the video is completely up to you, you can choose your own name, or can go for another name if you want! If you have any funny, unusual or interesting stories about the name, you can be sure to add them into your video too! If you want to go over how to pronounce things like place names or something too, that’s completely fine!
If you would like to find out more about the Name Pronunciation Project, or how you can take part in the project, please email James.Sweeney@reading.ac.uk and we will be delighted to have you on board!
