The current tropical glasshouse layout has a traditional central path with beds on either side.  While this can be practical it is not ideal for student use and a circular route would be better to allow flow of people around.  The soil, although regularly enhanced with organic matter is tired and in need of replacement.  Labelling of plants is very basic, using plastic labels with littel interpretation. The plant collection includes many interesting specimens but not enough diversity for our current teaching needs.  We therefore have a good point of start on which to build a more integrated teaching facility.  The fixed points are the tap to supply water and the heating pipes which are arranged around the sides anf far end.
