Between the Lines – Session 2

‘Between the Lines’ is an inclusive space for conversations, which meets once a month to reflect on race, culture and identity through films, podcasts, talks, books and journal reviews.

The Student Success and Engagement team have brought this initiative to life because they have found a need among students to create an approachable space on campus to engage in these discussions.

Interest is all you need to join this group; it is okay if you don’t know enough about a topic, you’ve never talked about it before or you feel uncomfortable. This is an opportunity for you to explore and learn more about those topics that we don’t usually discuss in an academic environment through conversations. This is a space for everyone to be listened to and heard.

Let’s connect on 26 May at 12:00-13:30, online!

Theme: The danger of a single story

In our second session, we will continue our discussions by reflecting on the power of stories. Everyone tells us their side of the story (The media, school teachers, our parents, politicians), so what do we really know? This conversation will have a special focus on how “Western stories” perpetuate systemic racism and on a psychological level, our implicit biases and stereotypes. We look forward to seeing you on 26 May. Don’t forget to register and add the event to your calendar.

These are the resources that will be used for the discussion. Please go through them in advance:
