Getting started with LinkedIn

January 20, 2020 @ 13:00 - 14:00

Do you feel like you should be using LinkedIn but aren’t sure why or how? Then this is the session for you! LinkedIn is often known as a form of online CV, but it’s also a fantastic tool for exploring career options by looking at the paths others have taken. LinkedIn’s powerful alumni search tool can help you identify University of Reading alumni working in a vast array of roles and industries all over the world. You could use these connections to find out more about roles or industries that interest you, and maybe even secure some work experience!

This session is aimed at anyone who would like to create and develop their first LinkedIn profile, as well as learn how to use some of LinkedIn’s search tools to start exploring their options and building their network. During the session we will look at the etiquette of online networking, what makes a good profile and start to build one – so we recommend you bring a laptop or tablet.

What’s in it for me?  Start building your online profile and professional network. Students who attended this session in the past told us ‘LinkedIn is a lot less scary than I thought!’

Who’s it for?  All students who want to find out more about LinkedIn and set up a profile.  Whether you are already using LinkedIn or not, this session will help you to make the most of the world’s largest professional networking site, from getting started to maximising your chances of securing employment.    *This workshop can count for 1 hour of your RED
