Never in my wildest dreams did I think such a thing could exist. Yet on Sunday 3rd August I will be travelling to Egerfood Regional Research Centre of Eszterházy Károly College in Eger, Hungary.
The week long workshop will cover all things powdery. Including phylogeny and systematics, morphology, host ranges, genetics, ecology, modelling epidemics and control mechanisms as well as of course visits to its famous wine regions…powdery mildews are particularly problematic on the grapevine.
Each of the students attending have been asked to present a well established paper. For myself it is the work of a well known, French, disease ecologist Marie-Laure Desprez-Loustau (et al.) and the curious case of Oak (Quercus) and powdery mildew coevolution.
I am looking forward to sharing my work and views on this topic and hopefully gaining enlightenment on many others. We will be lucky enough to share ideas with leading experts such as plant pathologist Levente Kiss, morphological expert Roger Cook and one of the leading lights in powdery mildew taxonomy Susumu Takamatsu.
