Following on swiftly from Maria’s post, I had a quick chat with Vicky Clarke this afternoon. Vicky told me that currently the Red Award is paper-based though it’s also recorded on RISIS (our student database; known generally as Tribal SITS). There’s a record of student enrolment there and it’s also where the transcripts currently reside. However, it doesn’t record which students do what, in terms of the training/development on offer to progress towards receiving an award, nor does it allow blanket e-mailing.
So Vicky and I are going to look into setting up a Blackboard course for the award. This would enable us to:
- make e-mailing easier,
- see if we can get the staff responsible for each part of the development sessions on offer to use it (by allocating students to the relevant groups using the Advanced Group Management and Sign-Up Building Blocks we have installed), and finally
- seeing if the actual verification/signing-off process might take place by linking the course to the Blackboard e-Portfolio widgets we are working on.
I think we’re some way off from that third and final stage yet but, as it’s a Friday evening, I thought I ought to record these ideas here so I don’t forget!
