CMS Audio Workshop for publishing audio files onto CMS pages : Paul Janota, ITS
Monday 12 September 14.00-16.00
CMS Audio Workshop to enable users to: upload audio files for transcoding to the appropriate format (mp3); use the CMS Audio tag to place the transcoded audio files on the CMS web pages; understand the importance of describing each audio file using metadata so that it can be found easily by search engines; work out which web pages are best for showing the audio file; use appropriate links to and from the audio file to maximise engagement; place appropriate images (e.g. of the presenter) next to the audio file.

How can I make sure it’s worth the time I’m spending on it? Where can I pick up tips on how to create engaging copy, good layout, great images, and quality audio and video? What do I need to know about other channels, such as mobile, HTML newsletters, YouTube, Facebook, or Twitter? How do I find out about how I should use all the available systems and technologies, such as CMS, Wikis, etc? Who do I talk to if I’ve got a fantastic new idea, a proposal, or some important feedback?

Facebook for Student Recruitment: the essentials : Dan Barcroft, Senior Student Recruitment Manager
Tuesday 27 September 14.00-16.00
Understand how to set up an account, what information to provide and how to protect your privacy, finding your way around and choosing your picture. The writing’s on the wall – Understand how to communicate effectively via Facebook with ‘friends’ and ‘fans’ and why it’s important to do it correctly. I ‘like’ Photos, Groups and Pages – Understand how Facebook operates as an interactive community and how to produce/use its tool and features for your own use.
This session will be suitable for you if you have never used, have only used on occasion or don’t feel fully confident in using Facebook.

Thoughts in 140 characters; Who will I be?; Who am I talking for? What am I saying – content, style and voice; The techie bits – (choosing browser, logging on, private/public, following); Hands on and examples of good practice.
This session is meant for people who are new to Twitter and haven’t got an account, or have one but haven’t tweeted more than a few times, and are intending to tweet on behalf of their area of the University or as an academic.

Tell me what you want to know – Understand how to gauge what your fans and friends want from you, interpreting feedback and available statistical information and also the many ways you can communicate your messages in a social media community friendly way. Facebook innit?! – Understand how to use appropriate tone and language in order to communicate effectively with your audience, but also taking into account University brand guidelines, in addition to maintaining privacy protection for you as a user. Facebook on the go – Exploration of Facebook usage and the mobile/smartphone market and also understand how to tailor and adapt your Facebook presence for this medium. Join Facebook with the world – Understand how to successfully join your Facebook presence with other social media outlets and gain awareness of how you are able to make Facebook work harder for you in managing your total social media presence. It pays to ‘like’ me – An exploration of Facebook advertising as a marketing tool and how to practically set up a meaningful and successful advert, as well as how to interpret statistical information from your campaign and evaluate it in terms of return on investment.
