Get ready for Christmas – open to all

The Modern Studies Christmas Special

Tuesday 4 December, 5-6:30 in OLD WHITEKNIGHTS HOUSE.

There will be two short talks and readings by our invited speakers Dr Tim Atkins and Dr Jeff Hilson. The event is being chaired by Dr Natalie Pollard.

There will also be *mulled wine and mince pies* to brighten your December.

Atkins is a lecturer and a poet, who has written translations of Horace and Petrarch. Hilson is a lecturer and poet, the editor of The Reality Street Book of Sonnets, and co-founder of the dynamic reading series, Crossing the Line, a hub for a proliferation of poetries in London.

Both are active figures on the contemporary poetry scene and in poetry publishing. They have commented on the close relationships today between the practices of writing, publishing & editing, and have criticised market-led publishing practice.

Both publish with a range of little presses including Salt, Barque, Crater, Veer, and Landfill.

Amongst the inspirations for their work they have named: Gertrude Stein, John Ashbery, Iain Sinclair, Louis Zukofsky, Charles Olson, and William Carlos Williams.
