‘From hieroglyphics to Isotype: reconstructing Otto Neurath’s “visual autobiography” from the Isotype Collection at the University of Reading’
The Austrian polymath Otto Neurath wrote From hieroglyphics to Isotype during the last two years of his life. Calling it a ‘visual autobiography’, he documented the importance to him of visual material, from his earliest years to his professional activity with the picture language of Isotype. The full text remained unpublished after his death in 1945. This talk will explain the process of editing it for publication from the original manuscripts in the Otto & Marie Neurath Isotype Collection at the University of Reading.
Christopher Burke is Research Fellow at the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication, University of Reading.
All welcome!
