Death at the races

Death at the races: on 4 April 1943, bombs from an 8th Air Force raid on Renault’s Billancourt plant fell on Longchamp racecourse during a spring race meeting. According to Jean Galtier-Boissière (Journal 1940-1950 (Paris: Quai Voltaire, 1992), p. 143), the races carried on after removal of the dead and wounded.
