Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier awarded a research contract with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency

Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier has been awarded a research contract with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency to conduct a gap analysis of Sweden’s national work according to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The results will form a key basis for the development of a National DRR Strategy for Sweden, and the final report will also be important for other national governments who are taking steps to develop their national DRR strategies and associated activities.

Sendai Five Years on: Reflections on the Role of International Law in the Creation and Reduction of Disaster Risk

Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier recently published an article in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Science entitled ‘Sendai Five Years on: Reflections on the Role of International Law in the Creation and Reduction of Disaster Risk‘. This open-access article forms part of a special issue on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

Outstanding Paper in the 2018 Emerald Literati Awards won by Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier

Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier has won the award for Outstanding Paper in the 2018 Emerald Literati Awards for her article “Sanitation, human rights and disaster management”.
 
The criteria used to judge the awards are: internationality; diversity; support for scholarly research; encouragement of applied research (impact); commitment to high quality scholarship; and a desire to ensure reader, author and customer experience is the best it can be.
 
This is the first scholarly work directly linking the debates around international human rights law and disaster management, with human rights obligations relating to sanitation. The clarification of obligation in relation to sanitation can assist in advocacy and planning, as well as in ensuring accountability and responsibility for human rights breaches in the disaster context.
