Yesterday staff and students from across the University of Reading came together to stand in solidarity and celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. As well as raising the rainbow flag, there was a workshop on gender identity and a panel event in the evening on the role of allies in the LGBT+ movement. We were lucky enough to be joined by Eleanor Roberts from the Beaumont Society, who support the transgender community, for both the flag-raising and the workshop on gender identity.
The gender identity workshop, which was facilitated by the RUSU LGBT+ officer, provided a safe space for staff and students to come together and learn about a whole spectrum of gender identities. It was a great opportunity to learn from each other and discuss some of the difficulties faced by trans people and those who identify outside of the gender binary.
Photos from the days events, and videos of two of the speeches, may be found on our Facebook page – we are grateful to the students union RUSU for sharing these.
