Owing to the developing coronavirus situation and following advice from the Head of the Institute of Education, all practice rooms and studios will be closed for the foreseeable future with immediate effect.
Our primary concern is to protect the health of our University community and, by extension, our wider community including visitors and guests. Our Major Incident Group is meeting regularly to monitor the situation closely and follow Public Health England (PHE) and UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice.
We are operating our core business as normal for now, including teaching and essential University activities. However, shared access practice facilities are not critical to our core business. Owing to the materials used in piano construction we cannot use alcoholic disinfectant to ensure that the surfaces are virus-free. Therefore, the decision has been made to suspend use of these facilities for all users to minimise the risk for pre-booked teaching and rehearsals.
We understand that this news will be disappointing and would like to reassure you that it is not a decision we have taken lightly. We will contact all practice room users when the situation changes and practice facilities reopen.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to seeing you back in the practice rooms soon.
