Wico Village

Wico village is a community of artisans and farmers who create organic pavilions mainly and other crafts made of willow branches. The project follows the interest of nature and response to animals by creating opportunities for people to adapt, refresh, meditate, and find yourself in these pavilions. They are placed around certain areas in Greenham common to create moments that allow you to be physically and spiritually connected to different wildlife habitats present.

These pavilions take the form of an organic shape that blends into the surrounding taking the curvy-like nature of the willow plant. They are constituted as living organisms that transitions slowly from the ground to the top of the structure. As the sun changes its course, its transparency makes you interact with the Greenham landscape and learn more about the wildlife both new and old species of animals.

The architecture of the village takes the form of curve-shaped patterns created when making crafts with willow. The buildings take a unique design that is meant to express the attributes of the context.  Through the separation of the building workshop into key spaces that follow the process of making these pavilions, a common area is formed at centre. The double-height space is the heart of where most activities take place leading to an exterior courtyard space where meetings and bigger structures could be made. When the workshop is closed, the outdoor courtyard would be used as a communal space for local sales and festivals throughout the year.
