A Plant Base

A Plant Base is a precedent community living purely from the land without any harm inflicted upon biodiversity. The vegan farming that takes place across the site involves the process of remediating soil by using natural, animal-free compost and products. Over time, the soil at Greenham Common will return to its natural PH levels, not only fixing the land but producing healthier fruits and vegetables to export to the wider community across Berkshire.

The organisation of the crops create a beautiful landscape across the common, bringing the site back to life with a flourishing orchard, forestry land, the expansion of trees for air purification, a nature reserve and a sustainable water system which incorporates an organic reed-bed filtration method.

A Plant Base welcomes outside communities to enjoy the landscape, and become involved with the buildings facilities: a cookery school, a plant-based eatery, a weekly farmers market and workshops to educate visitors on a healthy lifestyle and the importance of the projects concept and values.

All materials used to construct the building are sustainable and bring a unique aesthetic to Newbury. Rammed Earth, Timber and Zinc together create a pleasing palette directly relating to the land.
