The Tipping Point….again

Sunday is changeover day…..and as well as being extremely hot once again, I was apprehensive about the large number of new arrivals – 50 in all, most of them being our second batch of Reading students. But we are not losing that many, so numbers are peaking at 150ish next week – one of our ‘heaviest’ weeks to date!

Beautiful Sarah greets the day with tea n’ toast

I also decided on one of the hottest days of the year to re-design HQ and my office…and you know how everything has to look worse before it looks better?

My desk – mid tidy!

I was proud of my team today – despite the heat everyone kept working, and progress was made. At the end of the day we are all caked in a fine dust, sweat stuck to our skin. There is little relief from the heat in the evening as the new arrivals turn up….I feel a little sorry for the newcomers……pale and interesting in the hot summer’s evening glare while the hardened 2-weekers look on with their archaeologist’s tan worn like a badge of honour. Give the newcomers a day or two and they will blend in!

The tent site was extremely full – as full as it has ever been – but I did notice that everyone is turning up with bigger and bigger tents! Gone are the days of the A-frames! There was an organised chaos of sorts for an hour or two as new tents were put up – and then the vast majority disappeared for a welcome pint in the Calleva. The heat still shimmered above the droveway as I drive home…tomorrow will be another furnace!
