Month: August 2015

Changes to Library printing and photocopying

New printer/copier/scanners will be installed in the Library on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 August 2015 as part of the new University-wide Managed Print Service. This includes ‘follow me’ printing (where you ‘print’ to the cloud and release jobs at any appropriate device), besides copying and scanning to email. We apologise for any inconvenience experienced while the system is introduced and during the subsequent transition period.

For more information, read the Library News blog post.

Arrival Weekend 2015

Arrival Weekend takes place from Friday 18 September to Sunday 20 September. This is when the majority of our students will be making their way to our campuses.

If you are a new University of Reading student this September, start making plans for your arrival by visiting the Welcome website.

In order to complete this, Blackboard will be unavailable OR at risk as follows:

(Bank Holiday)
09:00 BST
Tuesday 1 September
Blackboard and Turnitin unavailable
09:00 BST
Tuesday 1 September

(* This means Blackboard and Turnitin can be used and you can submit assignments, but you may notice some changes to the interface being made during this period.)

This upgrade will update existing tools and introduce some new features.

At the same time, the user interface will be improved and updated. You will also notice a change of colour scheme in line with University branding.

Blackboard Learn now available as normal

The migration of our Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment to a new, externally-hosted platform is now complete.

All users, staff and student, can now log on to the system and use it as normal. This includes the ability to submit your work to Blackboard Learn or Turnitin assignments.

You should continue to access Blackboard Learn at the same web address as previously:

If you do encounter any technical issues, please report these as usual to the IT Service Desk:

No upgrades or other software changes have been introduced during the migration. We shall be moving to the latest version in a few weeks’ time, over 31 August-1 September. Further details of this upgrade will follow in due course.

Thank you for your patience while the migration was taking place.
