Retiring Organisations from Blackboard Learn Original – Timeline
As you’ll know, as the first stage in our migration to Blackboard Learn Ultra, all Organisations are being moved to the new Ultra interface for the start of the new academic year.
Colleagues across the university are busy building the new Ultra Organisations – indeed, there are a couple of Ultra Organisations which have already been made available to students.
As previously advertised, 11th September is the deadline for making your new Ultra organisation visible to students and setting the Original version to ‘Unavailable’.
The keys dates for retiring and removing the old Original Organisations are now available and are as follows:
Original Organisations: Timeline
| 11th September 2023 | All Original Organisations will automatically be set as ‘Unavailable’. This removes access for students, but staff will still be able to see and access them. |
| 12th January 2024 | All Original Organisations will be disabled,. This removes access for staff and students, and they will disappear from your list of Organisations in Blackboard. |
| 26th July 2024 | All Original Organisations will be permanently deleted from the Blackboard system. |
Exceptions to this timeline
There will be exceptions for certain types of Organisations, where there is a clear need to retain them for longer. Organisations used for External Examiners and Periodic Review are recognised as exceptions due to the academic cycle they follow.
Need to retain some content for archive purposes?
If there is content on your Original Organisation which is no longer required for students, but which you need to retain beyond January 2024, you should download a copy and store this securely in SharePoint / OneDrive.
