Updating Course and Organisation roles

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

As part of the move to Ultra courses we have reviewed and updated the permissions associated with Blackboard course and organisation roles – Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Marker and so forth. As part of this work we’ve tried to provide better descriptions of the purpose of each role and the most appropriate role to assign to colleagues involved in delivering and supporting course delivery.

For instance, we suggest that on Ultra courses the Instructor role should only be assigned to the Module Convenor and other academics leading on the delivery of teaching on the module. For other academics who may be involved in delivering some aspects of teaching or marking on the module, the Teaching Assistant role provides sufficient privileges, while avoiding presenting an over-long list of module staff to students via the ‘Course Staff’ area.

Our updated guide Course and Organisation roles provides a description of and recommended use for each role, and summarises the permissions for each course role.

Please note that Organisation roles have also been updated, and you’ll find full details for these further down the same support article.
