Back in July we announced that Blackboard file upload requirements are changing, and that we would be introducing limits on the size of files which you can upload to Blackboard. These limits have now been implemented.
What limits have been applied?
Category | Maximum size permitted |
Office files: Adobe PDF files; Word, Excel and PowerPoint files; Open Office files. | 250 MB |
Images, including JPG and PNG files. | 250 MB |
Audio files, including MP3 and WAV files | 25MB |
Videos, including MP4, MOV, AVI and WMV files | 0 MB |
Videos cannot now be uploaded directly to Blackboard – they should always be uploaded to YuJa.
Who is affected by the new limits?
The upload limits apply to all staff and students.
Students are most likely to be affected on modules where they are required to submit videos for assessment. If you are responsible for such an assessment, please draw your students’ attention to our guide How to submit a video to a Blackboard assignment.
Where can I get help?
If you try to upload a file larger than the maximum permitted size, you will see an error message:
If you try to upload a video you will see this error message:
