Blackboard Collaborate is being retired – what you need to know

Blackboard Collaborate is reaching the end of its product life and will be retired this summer. Access to Collaborate will end on Monday 23rd June 2025 and it will no longer be available for the delivery of live online sessions in Blackboard.

Microsoft Teams Meetings

The supported tool going forward will be Microsoft Teams Meetings. As Teams is already widely used across the University, most colleagues will find there’s minimal learning curve. It offers a consistent, accessible experience across different devices and is fully supported by the University, making it an ideal replacement for Collaborate.

We’ve created guides to help you use Teams Meetings, including how to schedule sessions, share links, and effectively facilitate live online teaching.

2025/26 courses

Collaborate is turned off in 2025/26 courses ahead of it being removed completely on 23rd June. It does not appear in the Details and Actions menu of a course. Please do not re-enable Collaborate in your course settings.

Need support?

If you have any questions or would like support with transitioning to Teams Meetings, please get in touch. The TEL team will be happy to help you make the switch as smooth as possible.
