On Tuesday 18th November 2025, the University of Reading will join institutions worldwide for Blackboard’s annual Fix Your Content Day. This day-long competition is part of our ongoing commitment to inclusive teaching and learning.
A ‘fix’ is when the accessibility score of a file (or piece of content) on Blackboard is improved using Blackboard’s in-built ALLY tool. On the day, we’ll aim to fix as many accessibility issues in course content as possible. Every fix contributes to a more inclusive learning environment for all our students.
How you can take part
- Choose a Blackboard Course (or more than one if you have time).
- Review your course for red and orange indicators.
- Use the ALLY interface to improve content accessibility (To be counted in the competition, fixes must be made through the ALLY user interface.)
- Focus on quick wins like adding image descriptions or using Styles to improve Microsoft Word Documents. Upload the fixed file through the ALLY Instructor Feedback panel.
- Start fixing on Tuesday 18th November and as you find them throughout the day.
- Aim to increase your score. You do not have to reach 100% accessibility – accessibility is a journey and any improvements are positive progress.
- Join a practical TEL webinar with time to improve your Course on the day: Make your Blackboard Course Accessible: A Practical Workshop (Webinar)
About the competition
‘Fix Your Content Day 2025’ is a 24-hour, worldwide competition where institutions come together to improve the accessibility of their digital course content using ALLY.
Every accessibility fix helps create a more inclusive learning environment for our students, while showcasing our institution’s commitment to accessibility. Last year, participants made nearly 42,000 fixes globally! Let’s be part of a worldwide movement to turn insight into action.
How does the day work?
- Participants correct/fix the accessibility of digital files using ALLY.
- Each fix is recorded in the Anthology (Blackboard) ALLY database and will be reported via a live Global Leaderboard containing ‘unofficial’ results. Also, all fixes made using the Instructor Feedback when using the Blackboard text editor will contribute to the total number of fixes for our institution.
- After the challenge, Blackboard’s ALLY team will validate the results. The final winners will be announced a week after the event.
