Merged and Supplementary courses for 2024/25

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The move to Learn Ultra, and the fact that many module codes are changing as part of the Portfolio Review process, means it will not be possible to carry forward any existing Merged or Supplementary course arrangements this year.

If you need a Merged or Supplementary course in 2024/25 you will need to submit a new request.

Module Convenors: please liaise with your Programme Administrator to agree who will submit the request.

Courses need to be merged before you add any content or enrolments.

Merged Courses for Modules

A Merged Course can be used when you have two or more closely related modules, and you want to administer them as a single course in Blackboard – for instance where students on Part 3 and PGT modules are co-taught.

If you need to use a Merged Course in 2024/25 please use this form: Request a new Merged Course

Merged Courses for Programmes

New for 2024/25: it is now possible to request a Merged Programme Course in Blackboard – bringing together students from a specific cohort on a number of related programmes. This may replace the need for a Supplementary course in some areas.

Possible examples of use:

  • merge Single and Joint Honours courses e.g. bring together 2024/25 starters on BA History with students from BA History and English Literature, BA History and International Relations
  • merge programmes with different course codes but which are essentially the same e.g. combine all Secondary Education Science pathways including PGCE and School Direct.
  • merge closely related programmes e.g. all PGCert Independent and Supplementary Prescribing Pharmacy programmes starting in a given Semester.

If you would like a Merged Programme Course in 2024/25 please raise a Service Desk ticket, specifying all of the Programme codes to be merged.

Supplementary Courses

A Supplementary course can be used when a shared Blackboard space is required in addition to the Blackboard courses automatically created for RISIS modules or programmes.

Again, no existing Supplementary courses are being copied forward. If you require a Supplementary course in 2024/25, you will need to Request a Supplementary Course.

You’ll find more information about Merged and Supplementary Courses on our support site.
