Microsoft Office 365 suite – what is it?

The Microsoft Office 365 suite is now available for all staff and students in the University – but what is it?

It’s a collection of productivity tools and services including:

  • Microsoft Office software
    • All university members can download Microsoft Office 2016 programs, free of charge
    • Includes Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneNote and more:
    • Install on personally owned computers and mobile devices
    • Up to 5 installations per device type (great if you own more than one computer!)
  • Office online apps
    • Use online versions of Microsoft Office programs at www.office.com
    • For quick editing on the move, or real-time collaboration on an online document
  • OneDrive cloud storage
    • 1TB of online file storage (that’s a lot of space!)
    • Access from anywhere via web browser at www.office.com
    • Share documents with colleagues/students
  • Skype for Business
    • Instant messaging client to install on your work PC
    • Online meetings and communication by text, audio, and video
    • See real-time online status of UoR colleagues, integrates with Outlook
  • Email/calendaring
    • Full email/calendaring via Office 365 – Outlook or online
    • 50GB of email storage
    • Currently available to students only, will be made available for staff in near future

All this and more is already available – sign in at www.office.com with your University login (you’ll be redirected to the University sign on page).  For more information and help, see the IT guidance about Office 365.
