Arachis glabrata – Perennial Peanut

The perennial peanut is grown as a forage crop and an ornamental groundcover species originating in South America.  It is nitrogen fixing via rhizobial associations and tolerant of a wide range of soil and moisture conditions.

Our plants have been in cultivation at Reading for many decades and originally formed part of the peanut collection used in research in the Agricultual Botany department, most recently by Dr Barbara Pickersgill, a great expert on a range of tropical crops.
