Chlorophytum comosum – Spider plant

Within the glasshouse we have two variegated forms of Chlorophytum comosum. C.comosum ‘Vittatum’ with mid-green leaves and a broad central white stripe and C.comosum ‘Variegatum’ with darker green leaves and a white margin.

Popular as a house plant, the spider plant is native to tropical and southern Africa but has now become established in various places e.g. California.

C.comosum ‘Variegatum’

Chlorophytum is in the Asparagaceae, subfamily Agavoideae in the APG3 system.
