TSBE Research will help Green Retailer of the Year go further

TSBE researcher Stephen Richardson is tackling the challenge of the embodied carbon in supermarket construction for his sponsoring company Sainsburys. Stephen’s reasearch looks to develop tools to measure the embodied carbon of Sainsbury’s new stores and to trial new low carbon materials and construction techniques whilst also developing design tools that will help drive innovation. Sainsbury’s, a key sponsor of the TSBE centre, has just won the prestigious Green Retailer of the Year for its efforts in reducing energy consumption and waste, one of four awards that it scooped in this year’s Grocer Gold Awards. This research project will build on Sainsbury’s successes by tackling the embodied impacts of its stores, an area that has so far, been largely overlooked by the construction industry. Stephen will be speaking about his research at the forthcoming TSBE Centre conference on July 2nd.
