In this series ‘Meet Student Services‘ we will be talking to teams throughout Student Services, putting a face to the team name, getting to know them and the services on offer to all students at The University of Reading.
This time let’s meet The Student Financial Support Team
Matt Daley – The Student Financial Support Team
A little more about you:
I have been working at the University for just over 11 years and have enjoyed many different roles supporting students ranging from international student advice and support to immigration advice, being a Warden in Halls and now working to support students with their finances.
Fun fact – I eat two mars bars a day.
Tell us about the services your team provides:
The Student Financial Support Team is available to provide advice and support on money-related matters, whether it’s regarding your tuition fee or maintenance loan, bursaries and awards, or advice on how we can support you if you are experiencing unexpected financial difficulties.
We are also very keen to help students to improve a very important life skill, managing their finances, that is why we have partnered with Blackbullion to provide free online courses and tools to help you become smarter with your money.
A tip(s) for students at UoR:
Create a budget. That’s because without a budget you won’t know where all your money goes, you’ll just wonder where it went.
Live below your means. Find balance and a lifestyle that’s sustainable whereby you spend less than is coming in. You won’t know this unless you do your budget.
Have an emergency fund. You should aim to save but the exact amount depends on you and your circumstances into a safe and accessible bank account so you can cover the financial surprises life throws your way.
Don’t focus just on the price — think about the value too.
