Activities to do this winter – by Akash Kumar

Winter break is underway and most of us students are going to have a break from our classes till January. This means opportunities to try new things in winter. During your winter break, you can try something new, maybe finally give ice skating a try. A good one would be at Ascot Racecourse

I personally enjoy Christmas lights very much, and the moment the Spirits light up central London truly marks the start of the holiday season.  ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ scheme has the stunning Spirits soaring through the skies above the Regent Street and St James’s neighbourhoods.

‘The Spirit of Christmas’ were illuminated on November 9, 2022, with the displays turned on from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily for a more sustainable display.

The Victorian market’s cobbled streets and airy alleyways are alive with Christmas cheer, with a fun-filled festive evening of late-night shopping and Christmas workshops ranging from wreathmaking to whisky tasting with Leadenhall Market’s talented tenants. Visitors can enjoy an evening of festive fun with live music, interactive workshops, late-night shopping in the Market’s boutique stores, a photobooth, and the Market’s famous shoeshine team until 8 p.m.

You can make a picture diary or a scrap book to store memories and revisit them later down the line too!

Don’t worry if outdoor activities aren’t your thing. There are more than enough activities for you to indulge during your break. With the temperature constantly dropping its finally time to make that cup of hot chocolate that you always wanted with marshmallows and frosting or maybe you can try your master chef skills in baking and make Gordon Ramsay blush.

Maybe you can learn a new skill like knitting and knit yourself a scarf or gloves or you could finally binge watch that show you have been putting on hold. You could have a game night with your friends and have a bonfire with them and could watch Christmas classics like Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Home Alone series or do something daring and watch the entire Skywalker saga!

It doesn’t matter if you want to stay indoors and take things slow or explore different places, this break could be your chance to treat yourself for all the hard work that you did during the Autumn term and prepare yourself for the rest of the academic year to do even better!

Try and take care of your self over the break. Both your physical and psychological well being are important so take this winter break as an opportunity to be a bit selfish and treat yourself.  Also, enjoy Christmas and New year safely and responsibly!
