Opening hours over the summer vacation

Over the summer vacation the opening hours of some of your services and facilities on campus may be changing. However, do not worry! You will still be able to access the help and support you need during this time. Below, we have provided a summary of the summer opening hours of our services so know how to access the support you need.


Support Centres: 

‘Ask us a Question’ on the RISIS portal is the main method for contacting support centres with non-urgent queries. Over the summer vacation period, you will be able to use the ‘Ask us a Question’ service. Ask a question is still always available over the summer, any queries received will be fielded to the correct teams, and their responses sent during office hours for each respective team.


The Student Financial Support Team: 

Over the summer vacation the Student Financial Support Team’s outside of term time hours will be Monday to Friday, 10:00-13:00 and 14:00-16:00.

The Student Financial Support Team will be unavailable on 13 June, and closed on bank holidays.

You can book an appointment with the Student Financial Support Team via the online form. Appointments are available in-person or via MS teams.


The University of Reading Careers and Placements team: 

Throughout the summer vacation period the Careers front desk will be open from 09:00-13:00, Monday to Friday. The Careers team still be available 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday via email ( and telephone (0118 3788359).

Students can also book an appointment online with a careers consultant for advice.

Careers information and help sheets can be found on the Careers website. Careers webinar recordings and further materials can be found on Careers 24/7 in Blackboard.

Please note that the Careers service will be unavailable 12 July and 28 August.

Any emails and voicemails received outside of working hours, or during the closure days, will be responded to on the next working day.


Student Services Reception: 

Outside of term time the Student Services Reception will be open:

  • Monday to Friday 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 16:00 (You can also 0118 378 5555 or email
  • The Student Financial Support Team will be unavailable on 13 June, and closed on bank holidays.


Disability Advisory Service (DAS):

Over the summer vacation period the Disability Advisory Service front desk will be open 11:30-13:00 and 14:00- 15:00, Monday-Friday.


Campus Jobs: 

Campus Jobs will be open as normal throughout the summer (10am until 4pm Monday-Friday) with the exception of any bank holidays and University closure days.

Outside of term time, students are encouraged to book an appointment in advance. Appointments can be made on the Campus Jobs portal, by email (, or by phone (0118 378 4499).


University of Reading Library: 

The Library’s opening hours during the summer vacation will be as follows between 10 June – 17 September:

  • Monday – Friday: 08:30 – 17:00
  • Saturday & Sunday: Closed

There are some exceptions:

  • Saturday 15 July, Saturday 12 August, Saturday 16 – Sunday 17 September: Open 08:30 – 17:00
  • Monday 28 August: Closed for Bank Holiday

Normal term time opening hours to resume from the 17 September onwards.


The International Student Advisory Team: 

To book an appointment during the summer vacation, please see the Appointments page. You can also contact the team via email 09:00 – 17:00, Monday – Friday.

The International Student Advisory Team will be unavailable on 13 June, and operating at a reduced capacity 28 June, 29 June, and 30 June.


DTS/ IT Service Desk: 

Throughout the vacation period the IT Service Desk/DTS will be available 09:00 -17:00, Monday to Friday.

The IT Service Desk, located on the first floor of the library, will also be open 09:00 -17:00, Monday to Friday for in-person drop-ins.

You can also contact the IT team by email (, via the Self Service Portal, and by phone (0118 378 6262), 08:00-1800 Monday to Friday. You can find more information about the support services available to you via the DTS hub.

The IT Service Desk/DTS will be unavailable on Monday 28 August.

The IT Service Desk will be unavailable during clearing, Thursday 17 August – Friday 18 August.


The Counselling and Wellbeing Team: 

The Counselling and Wellbeing service will be open between 10:00 and 16:00 Monday to Friday.

The Student Welfare Team:

The Student Welfare Team’s offices will be open as usual throughout the summer period (Monday – Friday 10:00-16:00). Please contact if are in need of support, or call 0118 378 4777.

Please not there will be no drop-in service over the summer closure period.

Throughout the summer vacation period the accommodation office will be open Monday – Friday, 08:30- 17:30. You can visit the offices in-person, or contact the accommodation team via phone and email ( and 0118 200 5011).

The service will be closed on bank holidays. On University closure days the office will be closed but the accommodation team will still be contactable via phone and email.


Study Advice:

The Study Advice appointment service is available in person and online all year round apart from University Closure days and Bank Holidays. Appointments are available Monday – Friday, 09:00-17:00.You can book an appointment via the library website.

The Study Advice drop-in service will be unavailable during the vacation period, and resume when the autumn term starts in September.

Please email or call 0118 378 4245, if you have any questions. The Study Advice team are available during the vacation despite the desk being closed during this time.



If living in halls, wardens will be available throughout the Christmas period, and you can call the Halls Hotline on 0800 029 1984


Henley Business School:

The Helpdesk will be open 08:30-16:30, Monday to Friday throughout the vacation period.

Students are encouraged to send in any enquiries they have through the RISIS Student Portal, ‘Ask a question’, or call 0118 3784007.


Reading Student’s Union:

From 12 June the RSU’s opening times will be as follows:

  • Reception and the Advice Service will be open as usual (09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday)
  • Knights Café (Starbucks) will be open 10:00-14:30, Monday to Friday
  • Mojos will be closed from 17 June (after Open Days) until the 14 September
  • Cerealworks (Bagelman) will be open Monday to Friday 08:30 -16:30
  • Korean Food Market will be open 10:00-17:30pm Monday to Friday
  • Unicuts will be largely closed and Mail Box has now closed permanently


University SportsPark:

The University SportsPark will be open as usual throughout the summer (07:00 – 22:00 Monday -Friday, 08:45 – 21:00 on weekends).

The SportsPark will be closed for a planned maintenance day on Monday 19 June 2023.

Support over the summer vacation

  • NHS Mental Health Crisis Service on 0300 365 2000 or 0300 365 9999 (out of hours 9pm -9am)
  • Call 116 123 to talk to the Samaritans, or email: (for a reply within 24 hours)
  • Text “SHOUT” to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line, (24 hr service)
  • Urgent concerns about your mental health? Call the Berkshire NHS Crisis number; they are available 24/7.
  • If you are feeling suicidal or desperate to talk to someone, you can call the Samaritans for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 116 123.
  • PAPYRUS is the national UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide and offers a telephone and text service on 0800 068 4141. The service is staffed by trained mental health professionals 10:00 – 22:00 weekdays and 14:00 – 17:00 at the weekend.
  • Your doctor/GP practice. If you are registered with the University Medical practice in Northcourt Avenue, the number is:0118 987 4551. Otherwise, please contact the doctor with whom you are registered.
  • Non-urgent NHS medical help/advice: 111.
  • Emergency services:999.
  • University Security Team emergency number: 0118 378 6300.
  • University Security Team non-emergency number: 0118 378 7799 or
  • For any urgent Halls matters, please ring the Halls hotline on 0800 029 1984 who are still operating a 24/7 service.
