Firstly, congratulations for making it through exam season. Whether you’re feeling relieved, exhausted, or a mix of both, now is the perfect time to have a little reset so you are ready to get back into a routine. Winding down doesn’t mean doing nothing; it’s about finding ways to recover mentally and physically.

Here are some simple but effective ways to ease back into a balanced routine and feel your best again:

  • Self-Care: After weeks of late-night study sessions and high stress, your body and mind need to reset. Self-care looks different for everyone, but it could be as simple as having a long hot shower, watching your favourite movie or catching up on sleep. These simple steps will help you wind down before you can pick up a routine – but be sure to build these into your routine too to keep on top of self-care all year round.
  • Movement: Exercise might have taken a backseat during exams, but it’s a great way to release built-up stress and boost your energy levels. Whether it’s hitting the gym, going for a run, attending a yoga class, or just having a walk, moving your body will leave you feeling refreshed. You don’t have to go all out – just start with something you enjoy and gradually build it into your routine again.
  • Eating: We are all guilty of having convenient (and maybe not so healthy) food during exam season, but now’s the time to nourish your body properly. It doesn’t need to be expensive or time consuming, but ensure you get all of the nutrients you need to gain back some energy! Planning your meals ahead will help your build these healthier decisions into your daily routine.
  • Reconnecting: Exams can also put socialising on hold, but now you have the time to reconnect with people who make you feel good – be it your friends, family or partners. Whether it’s meeting up for a coffee, planning a fun day out, or even just a facetime with your loved ones at home, spending quality time is a great way to lift your spirits.
  • Reading: After weeks of academic reading, it can feel amazing to dive into a book purely for enjoyment. It could be fiction, self-improvement, or a topic that fascinates you; reading is a great way to relax and shift your focus while not having any screen time too! Don’t forget to keep on top of your essential reading too – find a perfect balance to fit both of these into your routine.

Everyone unwinds differently, so pick the things that feel right for you. The key is to gradually reintroduce routines that make you feel good. It’s not about making dramatic changes—it’s about small, meaningful habits that help you reset and feel balanced again.

Now that exams are behind you, take this time to focus on yourself. Don’t just jump back into the next challenge without giving yourself time to recover. Prioritise your well-being, and you’ll be in a much better place to take on whatever comes next!
