Using insomnia as a source of inspiration, my work grew from trying to combine painting and embroidery to looking at the border between sculpture and painting. Using different folding techniques, such as using the hospital corners technique, which is typically used for bedsheets, I create geometric patterns for my paintings. These patterns could be potentially seen on duvet covers and emphasise the idea of sleeping. The colours chosen for these shapes represent my current mood, showing what would keep me from sleeping. By draping my painting over structures that are made specifically for the paintings I create work that lies on the border between sculpture and painting. The draping makes the artwork more fluid reminding the viewer of the floating sensation of dreaming. The awkward structures that hold the canvas above the heads of the viewers reinforces the idea of the stress that you feel when you can’t sleep.
