Nursing Home Abuse Statistics Overview. As many as 5,000,000 elders are abused each year. It is thought that 1 in 10 elders over the age of 60 have been abused. One study reported that 24.3% of residents experienced at least one instance of physical abuse while in a nursing home. There’s a huge difference between being a carer and being caring. It’s something that is often missed within a care setting. The aim of my work is to express all the politics and discussions which arise when discussing care homes. With my most important points being the distinct difference of what being caring means. I aim to express the day-to-day routines and struggles we face as carers through factual, informative text-based art which requires the viewer to fully immerse themselves into the text. My piece requires time and effort, mimicking that of a shift of a carer.
