At 7pm on Saturday 21 March 2015, South Street Arts Centre, Reading hosted the second Reading Science Slam as part of British Science Week.
Ben Littlefield provided a warm up with his ‘Light Fantastic’ presentation and then five University of Reading researchers took to the stage to engage and enthrall the audience in just eight minutes each.
This years scientists were:
Joanne Bagniewska from Biological Sciences
Oli Ellingham from Biological Sciences
Nicky Howe from Meteorology
Yue Li from Food and Nutritional Sciences
Roshan Limbu from Pharmacy
Each used theatre and drama to convince the audience that their science is thrilling and exciting. At the end the audience got to vote for their favourite act.
Oli’s virtual plants and talcum powder showing the perils of powdery mildew infection and spread gained the highest vote.
