Doctoral Research Conference 2014

On Thursday 1 July 2014 the Graduate School held its annual Doctoral Research Conference. Over 300 doctoral researchers and academic staff attended the event and the afternoon featured presentations by finalists in the PhD Researcher of the Year Competition and the Three Minute Thesis Competition.  Also on display were entries to the Research Poster Competition and the Research Image Competition shortlist.

Fairbrother Lecture – first PhD Public Lecture

Fairbrother Lecture: Can cannabis be used to treat epilepsy? Thursday 15 May, 7.00pm, Henley Business School, Whiteknights campus

This Thursday will see the inaugural Graduate School Fairbrother Lecture take place in the Henley Business School, Whiteknights. The Fairbrother Lecture, named after Jack Fairbrother who in 1929 became the University’s first PhD graduate, will be an annual event at which a current, or recent, Reading PhD researcher will present their work to a wider audience.

An essential event for new doctoral research students, this will provide you with an introduction to what you need to know about academic life during your time at Reading, including information on:
• What you can expect from the University Graduate School and what we will expect from you
• Training requirements (RRDP)
• Personal development events
This is also an opportunity for you to meet other new doctoral researchers and refreshments will be provided.
Attendance is highly recommended. Please email gradschool@reading.ac.uk if you are planning to attend.

Sometimes doing a PhD can get a little lonely, so put the books aside for an hour and come and meet others in the same boat as you! (Coffee, pastries and fruit provided.)
