IGF-binding proteins favourable effects in metabolic and cardiovascular disease Dr Stephen Wheatcroft, University of Leeds
Dr Wheatcroft’s research focuses on investigating the mechanistic basis of vascular disease in relation to diabetes; with particular interest in the role of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins in the development of metabolic dysfunction, regulation of endothelial function and predisposition to atherosclerosis. Much of his research is carried out in gene -modified rodents with alterations in insulin and IGF signalling. Other interests include investigating the effects of insulin resistance on progenitor cells and vascular endothelial regeneration and assessing the effects of obesity on endothelial function.
